To Whom it May Concern,
Joseph Hill reported to me as a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op during the Spring semester, 2025. During his time with us, Joseph demonstrated highly technical mechanical design and problem-solving skills that greatly exceeded the expectations of our team. He displayed qualities of not just a great co-op, but a great engineer with a passion for his work.
Joseph worked on a variety of projects including the design and implementation of a multi-axis gantry fixture. By the end of his term, he successfully delivered a functional electromechanical system and used it to simulate loading conditions over hundreds of thousands of cycles. He successfully condensed years of simulated use into a short few days of testing with his device, saving our client time and money while building confidence in the chosen design path.
Right away, Joseph’s analytical instincts, his attention to detail, and his commitment to design excellence made him an invaluable asset to our engineering team and our clients. One of Joseph's standout qualities was his problem-solving ability, and he quickly gained the trust to tackle challenges independently without significant oversight. He took on tasks and responsibilities that extended well beyond the original scope of his co-op assignments, and he actively worked to challenge himself to improve and learn on the job. His ability to adapt to challenges, his initiative, and his eagerness to innovate made him an asset to the team.
Joseph’s technical ability was complimented by his proficiency in communication. He kept all the key stakeholders in the loop with regular updates and impressed us all with his presentation ability. He left a positive impression on everybody that he interacted with and took the time to get to know just about everybody in the office.
It is without hesitation that I recommend Joseph for any future engineering roles or opportunities he pursues. He is a talented, driven, and dedicated individual whose mechanical design expertise and problem-solving skills will prove to be an asset to any team. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or require additional information about Joseph’s time with us.
Sincerely,
Andrew Levite

To whom it may concern,
It is with great confidence that I recommend Joseph Hill for an engineering role with your company.
My name is Grant Cothrel. I am a staff engineer at Kaleidoscope Innovation in Cincinnati, OH. I have been with the company for 5+ years, and from 2020-2021 I served as engineering co-op supervisor. Over the years, I have worked with many students of various skill levels and abilities, and Joseph is one of the most impressive engineers we have had come through our program.
From day one, Joseph demonstrated an ability to get things done. He approached each problem with enthusiasm, asking the right questions, running his ideas past us, and then executing with efficiency. He fearlessly plunged himself into the deep end of an automated gantry to be used for lifecycle testing. When he inherited the project, it was mechanically incomplete and had never been fully powered on. He deftly communicated issues and failures, helped us prioritize them, and addressed each one. He designed robust solutions at the appropriate level of fidelity, whether they were machined components, 3D prints, or fiber-board panels. He collaborated with electrical engineers, authored code, and performed software and hardware troubleshooting with supplier representatives to enable the originally sluggish gantry to reach its full potential. He went above and beyond and added wireless communication to the gantry, to allow remote control and monitoring. This project was an enormous success for him and for our project team at Kaleidoscope.
Joseph also participated in numerous brainstorms, and helped us develop solutions to all kinds of problems. He thinks creatively, and I can’t say enough good things about his ability to convey ideas verbally, through sketches, and through CAD.
I am grateful to Joseph for all of his contributions and accomplishments this past semester. He surpassed all expectations for an engineering co-op, and I am confident he will excel at whatever he takes on next.
Sincerely,
Grant Cothrel

Letter of Recommendation for Joseph Hill
To whom it may concern,
ATI Industrial Automation employed Joseph Hill as a co-op/intern for two rotations (two separate assignments). He worked on my team at the time, Application Development, during his second rotation. I was his direct manager. The Application Development team is responsible for developing new ways to use ATI products on industrial robots. This involves programming various different robots (all different proprietary languages), designing and sourcing mechanical tooling, documenting robot integration procedures, and creating instructional and marketing content. Joseph was involved in all of these aspects during his single semester assignment on my team.
Joseph Hill is creative, technically competent, curious, and motivated. I would highly recommend him for future employment or higher level education in the robotics field.
When he first joined my team, Joseph had never programmed an industrial robot. For his final internship project, he completed an instructional robot demo (using a collaborative robot) start to finish. I pointed
him to where he could find online and internal resources, and he then completed all of the training on his own. In addition to using the provided training resources, he designed tests to trial and error other topics. He knew when to reach out to help and when to figure something out on his own. I was very impressed with his quick learning abilities.
The robot demo involved learning how to program that particular robot brand (different from the one he originally trained on), designing mechanical tooling to use in the demo, writing a robot program to showcase specific product features and programming capabilities, and filming and editing a video (with voiceover) to share with customers. He went above and beyond by learning a more advanced robot programming feature (full custom tuning of force control) which better highlighted our product’s features. He also put in extra effort to professionally light the video set and use a professional microphone and editing software for the video. I was able to use his final product to get approval to use more of my full- time employee’s time on instructional videos.

Joseph Hill Letter of Recommendation Page 1One of Joseph’s main duties was designing mechanical tooling for his own robot demos/tests, as well as for other employee’s needs. He was surprisingly adept at SolidWorks compared to his peers, and applied creativity to even the simple designs, making them cheaper/faster to manufacture, and more modular for flexible re-use in the future.
Joseph also assisted with new product prototype build, calibration, and testing. He documented the calibration and test procedures so that future interns could follow the process, and made suggestions to the product design that would make the builds & calibration easier and more reliable. It was obvious he was always thinking of ways to optimize a design.
Lastly, Joseph’s curiosity and unwavering determination to answer his unanswered questions make him particularly well-suited to a research or R&D type position. I look forward to seeing what he will do next.
